An original verbal partiture and an exhibition of artworks made by contemporary Greek visual artists set the starting point for I broke the vase (Eva Matsigkou and Nefeli Sani) and their sound walk entitled “a seed in a fruit in a hand in a pocket” which will be realised on Saturday, 29 April 2023, at 18:00, from the MOMus – Alex Mylona Museum to Philopappou Hill. The walk’s multisensory experience creates connections with the environment and the temporality and historicity of the landscape, while also suggesting an alternative way of perceiving the world. The sound walk is directly related to the issues raised by the exhibition Down to Earth which is presented in the framework of the 8th Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art (until April 30).
Eva Matsigkou and Nefeli Sani formed the artistic duo I broke the vase in 2018. Applying processes such as listening, sound exploration and free improvisation, they create musical performances. Central to their work is the writing and reading of autoethnographic texts, body participation, and interacting with the space and environment of each performance. They employ practices such as sound walks and the recordings of listening experiences, and experiment with feminist and thoughtful artistic processes.
